Hey gang !
I've lucked out and got a paying commercial photo commission for an Office. I need to find a local waterfall that's not too much off the beaten track.
I live in the East Bay, and need to lug around a medium format camera, a heavy tripod for some slow motion water shots, and the usual zillion pounds of gear.
This is the best time of year for this kind of stuff, what with the Seattle like weather, flowing streams, etc.
I'll be doing the shots week-day-time if anybody wants to recommend, guide, or even help out in person.
( Copies of the photos go to whomever assists me, BTW)
Naturally, I'll post the results here
Thanks,
Dave Ob

Re: Waterfalls?
Thu, January 27, 2005 - 11:13 AMhmmmm, good luck?
I dont know of any waterfalls in the bay.
Depending on how much its worth to you and if you have a spare day.
Yosemite is only like a 4 hour drive.
Yosemite Falls, Bridalvale Falls and Nevada Falls are all great for pictures.

Re: Waterfalls?
Thu, January 27, 2005 - 12:53 PMMt. Diablo has a few. However I I'm not sure what their specific location is. I also have a hunch they are a mile or two hike from the road.
Also out Morgan Territory Rd between Pleasanton/Livermore and Calyton there are a few potential locatins near the Pleasanton/Livermore end. There is also a road which extends from Morgan Terriory to Byron I think. Along this road you might find a few.
Hmm... I also wonder about along Calevaris Blvd just south out of Sunol as there is a watershed back in there and it's got some elevation change.
Then again there's also the road which goes form Livermore to Mt. Hamilton. YES! I think there might be a few good spots in there just south out of Livermore. There are several rock pools and they are just off of the road. It's one of the most amazing roads in the Bay Area in my opinion. I'll try and look it up for you. -

Re: Waterfalls?
Thu, January 27, 2005 - 1:57 PMMany of the watersheds on Mt. Tamalpais have falls this time of year. If you scout around a bit, you can probably find something nice not too far away from the main paths.

Re: Waterfalls?
Thu, January 27, 2005 - 4:21 PMHi Dave!
I'm going to recommend two spots to you. Although neither are in the east bay they are in the Bay area.
1. Uvas Canyon County Park. I just saw some photos of a waterfall there that were taken less than a week ago.
2. Big Basin Redwoods State Park. The really big waterfall is a 12 mile round trip hike but there are also 2 smaller waterfalls in the park that are pretty nice. Especially with all this rain.

Re: Waterfalls?
Thu, January 27, 2005 - 9:16 PMSunol Regional Wilderness has waterfalls. Parts of the park actually look like Yosemite. Come to think of it, I think the area I am thinking of is called Little Yosemite. Yes! I found the link...it is a gorgeous area!

Re: Waterfalls !
Fri, January 28, 2005 - 9:31 AMGang:
Thanks greatly for all the tips !
I'm going to load up my Pick-up and head out to several of the suggested locales, and see what works for this commision.
I'll post the results in the Tribe portfolio, as well as mine. The client wants a macro-print about 3 ft by 5 ft. I'm not sure if it's gong to be in color,or B&W yet.
Hopefully the Japanese Glass that I'm going to be schlepping all over won't break my back !

Re: Waterfalls?
Tue, February 26, 2008 - 4:04 PMThe perfect spot for waterfalls is Fall Creek in Felton. Just a quarter mile off of Hwy 9 in the Santa Cruz Mtns. Much of the trail is wide, flat/ low grade and there are lots of little cubby holes to discover. The trail follows the creek and streams from Felton up to the top of Bonny Doon. It is majestic with the redwoods, ferns, mushrooms and banana slugs all around.
Enter the Park from Empire Grade Rd and follow the sound of rushing water :)
