the only wines i know of that are grown in the "bay area" are out in livermore (if you even consider that they bay area). there is a stretch of wineries that you can hop on some road out there. ive never been but ive heard of it.

if you are just looking for wine, check out Vino on Piedmont Ave in Oakland. they have a great selection of inexpensive (and expensive) red wines.

      Vineyard!
Jimbo lives right there in the midst of all those wineries.
Many new ones going up too.

      p.s.
      Tala sure likes wine.

I'm fond of 7 Deadly Zins, but it's not really Bay Area.....it's Lodi, but what ever, so long as it's not the Napa usual that's hyped to be so great just because they can claim Napa on the label.

Oh, a good winery to visit, if you like Santa Cruz, crap, the name fails me, but the wine is Cardinal Zin....... does anyone see a theme here in my wine tastes? Hee hee!

    Happy Wine-ing :)

Cardinal Zin comes from Bonny Doon, a wonderful winery to visit, as they have a huge selection and are usually tasting quite a few wines on any given day.

Bonny Doon is great! It is $5 to visit the tasting room, and you'll try around 8 different wines. IIRC, you get a discount if you buy there.

And the trip on Highway 1 is bootyful! Especially on a motorcycle. (But I wouldn't recommend riding then hitting the tasting room.)

Honestly? The Napa winegrowing region is famous for a reason. It has amazing growing conditions that make fabulous wine. Even within the "Napa Valley", there are sub-regions that give a different taste as well..... I agree, there's a lot of hype, but when it comes down to it- Napa wine (when properly executed) has the potential to be freakin' FABULOUS.
